I Disobeyed the Spirit Out of Sheer Stubbornness

(I recently shared the experience when I wore a different colored tie based on the promptings of the Spirit. The following experience reveals that I am not as righteous as some people might think.)

Over forty years ago, during my lunch break, I rushed to the bank near the DA’s Office where I worked. I was burdened by my case load, and I was in a hurry.

As I stood in the line, the still small voice of the Spirit whispered to my mind and heart. There is no doubt I was being prompted by the Spirit.

Spirit: “Talk to the man in front of you about the church.”

Me: “No.”

Spirit: “Share the gospel with the man in front of you.”

Me: “No.”

Spirit: “Just open your mouth.”

Me: “No.  I’m in a hurry. I’m not in a good mood.  Forget it.”

Over forty years later, this experience still haunts me.

“God will hold you responsible for those you might have saved, had you done our duty.” –John Taylor
