“Influence” – A Little Poem About Those Who Influenced Us

“Poetic Wednesday”

Our lives have been completely changed because of the positive impact of so many others. These “people of influence” include teachers, mentors, family members, church leaders, and friends. Likewise, every one of us, in some small measure, have also been a “person of influence.”

“Influence” is one of my all-time favorite poems because it expresses the gratitude I feel for those who have uplifted me.  This poem was written by Thomas Curtis Clark (1941-2018) a prominent American editor, biographer, and poet.

Influence

I saw him once, he stood a moment there,
He spake one word that laid my spirit bare,
He shook my hand, then passed beyond my ken,
And what I was, I shall not be again.

-Thomas Curtis Clark
