Words of the Prophet: Key Quotes from Russell M. Nelson

“Sunday Sermon”

Russell M. Nelson was sustained and set apart as the 17th President of the Church on Sunday, January 14, 2018, in the upper room of the Salt Lake Temple.

In the past 5 years, President Nelson has given inspired and inspiring counsel to the saints and the world. As the living Prophet, we must hear him and follow him, as he hears and follows the Lord. “In this, there is safety and peace.” Those who “follow the prophet” are always blessed.

Hear Him”

“As disciples of Jesus Christ, our efforts to hear Him need to be ever more intentional. It takes conscious and consistent effort to fill our daily lives with His words, His teachings, His truths.” “What will happen as you more intentionally hear, hearken and heed what the Savior has said, and what He is saying now through His prophets? I promise you that you will be blessed with additional power to deal with temptation, struggles and weakness. I promise miracles in your marriage, family relationships and daily work. And I promise that your capacity to feel joy will increase, even if turbulence increases in your life.”

Increase Your Spiritual Capacity to Receive Revelation

“In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting and constant influence of the Holy Ghost,” “I renew my plea for you to do whatever it takes to increase your spiritual capacity to receive personal revelation.”

Keep on The Covenant Path

“Keep on the covenant path. Your commitment to follow the Savior by making covenants with Him and then keeping those covenants will open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege available to men, women and children everywhere.”

“The greatest compliment that can be earned here in this life is to be known as a covenant keeper.  The rewards for a covenant keeper will be realized both here and hereafter.”

“Staying on [the covenant path] will ultimately qualify us to receive all that God has. Nothing could be worth more than all our Father has!”

The Power of Daily Repentance

“Whether you are diligently moving along the covenant path, have slipped or stepped from the covenant path or can’t even see the path from where you are now, I plead with you to repent. Experience the strengthening power of daily repentance — of doing and being a little better each day.”

“Nothing is more liberating, more ennobling, or more crucial to our individual progression than is a regular, daily focus on repentance. Repentance is not an event; it is a process. It is the key to happiness and peace of mind. When coupled with faith, repentance opens our access to the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.”

Be a True Disciple of Christ

“True Disciples of Christ Are Willing to Stand Out, Speak Up, and Be Different”

“Becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ is not always easy. Often times, it takes a great amount of work and courage to stand up for the gospel and follow our Savior.”

“The day is gone when you can be a quiet and comfortable Christian. Your religion is not just about showing up for church on Sunday. It is about showing up as a true disciple from Sunday morning through Saturday night. … There is no such thing as a ‘part-time’ disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Your Personal Identity and Divine Potential

“The lesser labels we embrace, as important as they are, should never replace or take priority over one’s true identify as a child of God, child of the covenant and disciple of Christ. Make no mistake about it: Your potential is divine.”

“No identifier should displace, replace, or take priority over these three enduring designations:

  • Child of God
  • Child of the covenant
  • Disciple of Jesus Christ”

The Restoration is Ongoing

“We are witnesses to the process of restoration. If you think the Church is fully restored, you’re just seeing the beginning. There’s much more to come. Wait until next year, and then the next year.”

The Gathering of Israel

Anytime you do anything that helps anyone—on either side of the veil—take a step toward making covenants with God and receiving their essential baptismal and temple ordinances, you are helping to gather Israel. It is as simple as that.”

Now, we would like to talk with you about the greatest challenge, the greatest cause, and the greatest work on earth. And we want to invite you to be part of it”

These surely are the latter days, and the Lord is hastening His work to gather Israel. That gathering is the most important thing taking place on earth today. Nothing else compares in magnitude, nothing else compares in importance, nothing else compares in majesty. And if you choose to, if you want to, you can be a big part of it.  You can be a big part of something big, something grand, something majestic.”

Counsel to Youth

You are the hope of Israel, the children of the promised day!”

Take your questions directly to your Heavenly Father in prayer.   Ask Him in the name of Jesus Christ, to guide you.  You can learn for yourself – right now at your age – how to receive personal revelation. And nothing will make a bigger difference in life than that!”

Are you willing to enlist in the youth battalion of the Lord to help gather Israel?”

Focus on the Temple

“Let us never lose sight of what the Lord is doing for us now. He is making His temples more accessible. He is accelerating the pace at which we are building temples. He is increasing our ability to help gather Israel. He is also making it easier for each of us to become spiritually refined. I promise that increased time in the temple will bless your life in ways nothing else can.”

Make Time for the Lord Each Day

“I plead with you today to counter the lure of the world by making time for the Lord in your life—each and every day.”

“let God Prevail”

“The Hebraic meanings of the word Israel is ‘let God prevail.’ Thus, the very name of Israel refers to a person who is willing to let God prevail in his or her life. That concept stirs my soul!”

“The question for each of us, regardless of race, is the same. Are you willing to let God prevail in your life? Are you willing to let God be the most important influence in your life? Will you allow His words, His commandments, and His covenants to influence what you do each day? Will you allow His voice to take priority over any other? Are you willing to let whatever He needs you to do take precedence over every other ambition? Are you willing to have your will swallowed up in His?”

“When you know your life is being directed by God regardless of the challenges and disappointments that may and will come, you will feel joy and peace”

The Lord’s Proclamations Regarding the Living Prophet

D&C 1:38“Whether my mine own voice, or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.”

D&C 68:4“Whatsoever they [prophets] shall speak when moved upon by the holy Ghost shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord, shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord, shall be the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation.”

D&C 21: 4-6: “Thou shalt give heed unto all his [living prophet] words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me;
“For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.
“For by doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.”
